Hello, Here is Your Poiesis Health News for June 2008

Recent Weight Loss Challenge Students Experience Great Loses!

The most recent sessions of the Poiesis Weight Loss Challenge which are in their final weeks have lost a combined total of more than 1,750 pounds!

weight loss challengeThe 12 week course is designed to teach proper nutrition, portion control and create a better understanding of how your body reacts and responds to food, exercise, stress, and daily life. By establishing simple disciplines in daily living and leveraging the knowledge of good nutrition, students have been able to match or exceed their weight loss goals.

Here are some words from a happy student: "The Poiesis 12-week class has transformed my thoughts around what I eat.  I now consider myself to be a more thoughtful grocery consumer, armed with information to buy — and avoid — the right foods.  This is precisely the information I needed — in the right interactive and informal environment — to make some life-lasting changes for how I fuel my family for good health."  — Shannon L., 37 year old female - Clarkston, MI —

The June sessions for the Poiesis Weight Loss Challenge are in enrollment now. If you or someone you know are interested in the classes or would like information on nutrition and healthy living, please visit our web site

Good Food for Thought

Here is a quick and simple recipe for Salmon Patties

1 Can of Wild Caught Salmon
1 Large Organic Egg
Black Pepper to taste
2 Tablespoons of Whole Wheat Organic Flour

Mix all ingredients together, it makes like a pasty consistency. Heat a frying pan, you can add just a little bit, 1 tsp, of olive oil or sesame oil to pan. Spoon fish mixture into pan in patty size portions. I can get 3 patties out of this recipe but you can make one large patty if you like. Brown on both sides and enjoy. You can eat it alone or on top of a salad.

FYI

Propylene Glycol
A cousin of antifreeze (yes, antifreeze) that's also found in condom lubricants. But no worries: It's nontoxic, and only a tiny amount is used. This FDA-approved chemical keeps the oils and fats used in frying, as well as other ingredients, from congealing. For more facts about health and nutrition, click <here>.

Children and Obesity Since the 1970s, the percentage of overweight kids and adolescents in the United States has more than doubled. Today, 10% of 2- to 5-year-olds and more than 15% of children between the ages of 6 and 19 are overweight. If you combine the percent of kids who are overweight with the percent of kids who are at risk of becoming overweight, about one out of three children are affected. Read more <here>
